How To Tame the Wild Pocket Square

by Mike on December 29th, 2007

Don’t be afraid - according to John Carroll of Beverly Hills, Carroll & Co. there is no “wrong way to wear” the pocket square.

Here are a few guidelines I grabbed from the LA Times Article “Do not feat the pocket square” by Monica Corcoran.

  1. Match your pocket square to your tie. Silk tie means silk pocket square.
  2. Only wear a white linen pocket square with a suit or tuxedo. They are a little too formal for a sports jacket.
  3. The latest is trend is to have the pocket square hanging almost half out. Show it off!
  4. Make sure it is big enough so that it doesn’t fall into the pocket - which results in making it invisible along with a weird bulge.
  5. Always remember that the pocket square isn’t a necessity, but it is a great way to stand out.
